The Better Storage Company: Boxbee

August 09, 2014

Choosing to stay in New York for 2 of the 3 months of my summer vacation presented me with a problem that I didn't expect: what was I going to do with all my stuff? Being from California, shipping was out of the budgetary question; campus storage had already come 2 months ago; and typical storage units are wildly expensive and super inconvenient.

When one of my sorority sisters said, "$7.50 to store one box for a month," I instantly made up my mind that this would be the resolution to all my problems. And I was right.

What goes in the Boxbee box
In one box I was able to fit: 6 knee length dresses, 4 knee length skirts, 2 maxi skirts, 1 jean jacket, 6 long sleeve tops, 1 short sleeve blouse, 1 pair of jeans, 3 sweaters, 2 handbags, 2 pairs of flats, 11 novels. All this and I still had a fair amount of space left which could have fit a few more books or folded items of clothing.

Boxbee website

Here is the run down of how Boxbee works: You go to their website, select how many boxes you want delivered to you (which they do free of charge). Then you pack your boxes  and schedule a pick up time. When they retrieve your boxes, they will also whisk away any boxes that you didn't end up using, and you will only be charged for the boxes you did fill.

Some cool other features:
1. Boxbee let's you know which boxes you have at home or which ones are on their way.

2. This section reminds you of what you have in storage.

3. You can get your boxes delivered to a friend-- a really cool idea if you have a bestie that you want to share your wardrobe with.

4. Boxbee's site has a great feature that allows you to upload a picture of what is in your box. You can also document what items you stored in which box. This way if you only need box, you know which one to have them deliver back to your home.
