The Better Red Lobster Biscuits

August 09, 2013

There are things in life that you are not supposed to like, but you do anyway. For me these things include fitness infomercials, questionable journalism, and Red Lobster. Normally I am against chain restaurants unless I plan ordering a jumbo side of fries with my meal. But come on! If you've been to Red Lobster you can't deny that it's delicious. Their main attraction other than their over the top, over sugared beverages are the biscuits. These cheddar biscuits are so addicting that I'm always full by the time my entrée arrives.
Since I would much rather avoid the restaurant altogether, it about time that I set out to create a home made version. I did, and not to toot my own horn, but they are pretty amazing (toot toot).

The Better Trip to Bottega Louie

January 09, 2013

The best part about living in Los Angeles is that absolutely everything you could possibly want (and didn't even know you wanted) is at your fingertips. Today I took a trip to downtown LA with one of my best friends from college, Rosie. We both needed to get dressed and go out since we had (happily) spent most of our winter break lounging in pajamas yoga pants and watching TV.
We chose Bottega Louie, a chic Italian restaurant/bar/bakery as our destination for the day.

Rosie and I met through a mutual friend a week before we went off to college. Any time we got home sick we'd talk about our favorite LA spots, and she promised she'd take me to Bottega Louie when we returned to California. I am absolutely in love with this place! It's chic without being snooty, and it's luxurious without being overpriced.
Macaron au Crème Brûlée, topped with Sicilian pistachios
This dessert was my favorite. It's a vanilla macaron with a Tahitian, vanilla crème brûlée sitting on top and covered in raspberries and pistachios. I was going to take half home to share with the family, but after the first bite my plan was tossed out Bottega Louie's floor to ceiling glass windows.

They also have a wonderful array of macarons. From top to bottom in my box: passion fruit, strawberry, lemon, salted caramel, vanilla. From the first few bites of dessert here I could feel the sugar coursing through my veins, but oh it was so worth it. Absolutely no regrets.

open kitchen
As a self proclaimed foodie, I really appreciate the open kitchen that can be seen from the cafe and bar section of Bottega Louie. It treats the chefs like performers, and allows people like me to marvel at the what they make.

The Better Way to Get Your Milk

January 19, 2011

7290 Beverly Blvd
Los AngelesCA 90036
Neighborhoods: Mid-City West, West Hollywood

Had the pleasure of visiting Milk yesterday and was not disappointed with anything I tried. It’s small  cute, and bright. They specialize in homemade ice creams, shakes, unique ice cream sandwiches and bars, cookies, cakes, espresso and tea, and sandwiches, soups and salads.

One of their most famous items, the Blue Velvet Cake, was delicious. At $5, it was a decent size, too. Moist and bright blue, it was studded with blueberries and a perfectly sweet cream cheese frosting.

Their ice cream bars, milkshakes and sandwiches are not to be missed. I will say however, that if you are the sort of person who enjoys simplicity this may not be the place for you. This is the type of ice cream shop that caters to the people willing to try something new and crazy.

The Better Corner Bakery Usual

February 04, 2010

Every time I go to The Corner Bakery I order the same thing. I don't bother looking at the menu any more, and I no longer mind when the cashier recognizes me and tells me what I'm going to order before I even say hello. My mom makes fun of it for me, but look at these pictures and tell me you'd do otherwise.
