The Better Instas of April

April 28, 2014

April in Instas
(left to right)
1. I wrote a short tactile children's book as a community service contribution for blind children.
2. Came up with a cute and creative manicure idea while listening to an audiobook (and avoiding my homework).
3. Columbia's spring concert was a fun way to welcome the spring weather.
4. Fashion Institute first-year students displayed their class projects in the campus museum. It was amazing.
5. I became an official, initiated member of Delta Gamma. I love my ΔΓ sisters!
6. I made a cake in the middle of the week for fun.
7. There was a great BBQ on our school lawn. It was so nice to break out the sunglasses and lounge under the magnolia tree.
8. I made a roasted rosemary, garlic chicken and for the first time bothered to learn how to truss. Such a great, worthwhile skill to have.

The Better Snapshots from My Easter

Inside Easter Basket
a peek inside my Easter basket

As a child, my Easters were filled with country club brunches, Easter egg hunts, and more chocolate and sugar than my four-foot body could process. It's been quite some time since I partook in the classic celebration. Once I figured out there was no Easter Bunny my mom was grateful that the holiday no longer required such strategic planning.
This Easter, however, was a total throwback to the days of chocolate bunnies and egg hunts on the front lawn. My sister's boyfriend's mom invited me to the festivities, and I have never been so happy to accept an invitation. Mama G knows how to do it right. Here are a few snapshots from the most glorious Easter I've had in years.

The Better Home Decor Inspiration

My favorite thing to do on Pinterest is to browse photos of gorgeous homes. I'm generally a sucker for saturated hues and plenty of bright, natural light. I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to have multiple kitchens and living rooms so that I can live out all my interior decor dreams, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

The Better Chilled Chia Oatmeal with Mango

April 11, 2014

Chilled Chia Oatmeal With Mango
Now that the weather is finally warming up, I no longer feel the desire to start my mornings with a hot breakfast. A small bowl of oatmeal and yogurt is generally my meal of choice in the mornings, especially when I'm running off to an early class (8:40 enviro sci—ew). But spring has sprung here in the city, and my breakfast preference has now shifted to chilled oatmeal that is even simpler than a warm one.

The Better Outfit: Featuring Lauren

April 04, 2014

Styled With Lauren
GUESS WHO'S BACK! It's Lauren, it's Lauren! Today's post is about her modern Audrey inspired look. Though it may be springtime, black is acceptable year round here. It is the unofficial color of The City: black coffee, black clothes, black puddles when rain mixes with the grime of the street. New Yorkers like black because it looks chic and has the added benefit of hiding all the dirt that you accumulate while traversing through town (if you've been in a subway station, you know what I mean).

As the end of the school year draws near, my attention in lectures is dwindling lower each week. Not going to lie, I've spent more than a few classes doing some online window shopping (particularly in the shoe department). The weather in The City still is pretty chilly, but that doesn't mean I'm not looking ahead to the warm days that are soon to come. Currently, I'm obsessing over sandals with sturdy heels that won't send me tumbling to the ER--I'm not the most graceful gal. I'd die to have all these in my closet, but I circled my absolute favorites.
