As I’ve been working to pull my apartment together, I’ve started to learn the importance of budgeting and being smart about where I spend money. As much as I love love love these Mongolian pillows, spending $150 for one pillow just doesn’t make sense no matter how I try to justify it.
While playing around with some of the faux sheepskin rugs from Ikea, my sister came up with the great idea of creating a pillowcase from the rugs to mimic the expensive, trendy versions I’ve seen in some of my favorite home stores. Since I’m a big fan of changing things up regularly, I just chose to use a safety pin and an old pillow to achieve the look. This way if I decide I’m over the fuzzy pillow, or I accidentally spill some red wine on it, I can easily remove the sheepskin and still have a pillow I love.
The best thing about this DIY is that it is cheap cheap cheap! If you have a pillow you can repurpose (mine is about 14.5 x 10 inches) and a safety pin, you will only spend $13 to purchase the Ikea rug.

All you have to do is wrap the rug around a pillow, then use a large safety pin to hold the rug in place.
